In the afternoon, the main street, Antonio Maceo, is blocked off. Children's games, exercises for seniors commence the festivities. Carlos Hernandez's group often performs in the afternoon in front of Casa Cultura.

Open air restaurants are set up and you can buy a variety of foods such as paella, and roast pig.

At 700pm the Municipal Concert Band performs. Then El Ruso in the main plaza. Every couple of weeks the Association of Danzon meets in the Casa Cultura. Yerba Buena performs. Be sure to wear a skirt and bring a fan.

There is always something going on in the Casa Cultura that night. It might be the above mentioned Danzon group, or a night of Boleros, Feelin, or Poetry readings.

Then around 1100pm the young people take over with reggeton and the boom of the sound system shakes the sidewalks. If you are up for this, bring ear plugs,

Baracoa, Cuba is a musical treasure chest.

This area has unique songs and dances found nowhere else; Kiri-Ba Nengon, Aeroplano, Cabarete, Carril, Vais, La Pasion, Bombo Camara, to name a few. In Guirito, 15 kilometers out in the countryside on the way to Maisi, you will find the birthplace of the son, a tradition maintained by 21 members of Kiri-Ba Nengon.

As a tourism destination, Baracoa promotes its eco-tourism. Little known are the hidden diamonds and rubies of the talented musicians you will find there.
