Rosa y su Banda

rosabestphotoRosa y su Banda was formed in 2001 under the auspices of the ANCI (National Association of the Blind ) and has been well received by the listening public.   They have a repertoire of   many of their own compositions and have written original pieces  in the traditional vein.   Rosa y su Banda’s talented musicians are recognized at the provincial level and have been granted confirmed space  in Baracoa’s Casa Cultura.


Wilfredo La O
  Cisneros,
  Tres and director. 
Wilfredo has been a musician  for 11 years.  As a registered musician he has domination over many instruments.  He is also a composer.  Wilfredo has participated in five provincial musical events and two national ones.

Rosa María Gomero Belt, Clave, lead singer and group representative 
Rosa was born an artist and in spite of her blindness became a composer and writer of  many songs.  She specializes in children’s songs and has 100 to her credit.  In addition, Rosa has written 180 songs for adults.  She is the most prolific composer of the group and the majority of their repertoire comes from her compositions.

Luis Fredy Mendoza Romero, Guayo 
Although blind from birth, Luis is an accomplished poet and songwriter.  He has been awarded prizes in a variety of festivals, specifically for  the Young Pioneer Festival
 

Luis Enrique Labañino
, Maracas
Luis has been an amateur musician since 2002.  He has participated in three provincial festivals and in various municipal activities.  As well as a musicians, Luis is an athlete and has won medals in both javelin and discus ANCI (National Association of the Blind) competitions.
 

Leonor Manuel Blet Aguirre
, Percussion (bells)

Since a youngster Leonor has sung in Young Pioneer activites for the handicapped.  As an ANCI (National Association of the Blind) member and a soloist, he has participated in both municipal and provincial festivals.

Oriol Suárez, Bongos
Oriol has been the percussionist for Rosa y su Banda for five years, and has been a valuable member of the group.  He has gained lots of experience in this time in various festivals  and music galas around Guantanamo province.

Caridad Toirac Hernández, Guitar
Caridad is a natural composer and troubadour.  She has been in ten local festivals and has sung in events such as the 1st of April.  She has written more than ten compositions about Baracoa city, Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution.

Bárbaro Romero Labañino, Bass
Barbaro has had no formal musical training, but has an excellent mastery of the bass.  He has honed his skills in various festivals from Baracoa to Guantanamo.
