Grupo Joventud

 
dcfc0021The group Joventud was formed in 2000, joining the musicians of Septeto Habanero, Madera Limpia and Los Living.  This group is known for the scope and variety of its musical genres.  They play in festivals such as The Annual Book Fair,  Encounter with Tres Players,  Festival de la Farola, and Festival del Bacán.  Joventud are found in many local communal activities and nighttime parties as well as the Casa de la Trova. 

 

 

 

 

Jordis Toirac Rodrigues, percussion, arranger, director, bass and singer

Music has been his path and his passion since a youngster.  Jordi's first group was Grupo Colonial in 1991 and he stayed with them until 1998.  For two years he was on his own studying and preparing to form a part of Grupo Joventud.  In 2008 he became its official director.  He also is the bassist for the Group Recicla-G

 
Luis Cardoza Cardoza (El Tuerto), maracas, singer, administrator
El Tuerto is a child of the night.  You could often find him with his bottle of rum in the streets of Baracoa entertaining the population.  As his popularity increased, he was designated a cultural promotor of Baracoa. This inspired him to reform and begin his own group, Grupo Yarazon, which existed from 86 to 93.  Under the directorship of Pedro Garrido, he was a part of Nueva Trova.  Branching out in 2000, El Tuerto took advantage of his popularity as a chronicler of Baracoan pop culture and formed Grupo Joventud

Eldis Baratutes Toirac, (El Cojo) guitar and singer          
Eldis and Jordis hit the streets and were always seen together entertaining the locals.  "El Cojo" has been a musician since a youngster and together with Luis formed a part of Grupo Yarazon.  He followed El Tuerto and in 2000 became a founding member of Joventud.

Leocodires Romero, tres player, backup singer. 
Leo learned to play the tres from his father.  He has played in many events for tres players.  In 1986 he joined Corazon Latino.  In 2000 he left this group to become a part of Joventud. 

Yordi Abad Labanino, percussion and singer
Yordi started out with the Folkloric group, Jaguey.  This group won medals for their performances in the Festival of FEU (Cuban University Students Federation), Festival of City Dances,  and various festivals in Poland and ItalyHe joined Joventud in 2000.

Jose Eugenio Bet Estevez, singer and guiro player
Jose has been a part of Grupo YarasonCorozon Latino and when in FAR.(Cuba's Army) played in an army band.    In 2000 he joined up with Grupo Joventud.
 

Estoreluvis Sánchez Martínez,

Estoreluvis started his musical career in 1983 with the Folkloric group Yambusito.  In 2003 he joined Grupo Juventud.

Daniel Gonzáles Suárez, claves and singer
Daniel is the consummate musician.  He was a part of folkloric group Yambu-AkaleIn 2000 he joined Grupo Joventud.  In addition, Daniel is a member of the Afro-Cuban folkloric group Bara-rumba and also is a director of the group Recicla-G.
