Carnival in Baracoa this November

Baracoa Carnival Starts 18th of November 2011 !!

Carnival is the time when everyone in Baracoa cuts loose. The big excitement is that the group Original de Manzanillo will be performing. This famous 45 year old group from , you guessed it, Manzanillo de Cuba, will perform some of their classics such as: Tu y las Nubes, Rosanna, Isla del Encanto, El Traguito, etc.

This year there will be bands from Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo. The Guantanamo groups are: Onda Cubana ( son and salsa music), and Madera Limpia (regeton). Local groups such as El Ruso y su Banda, Yerba Buena, Maravilla Yunquena, and Orquesta Baracoa, will participate in the opening gala called El Sol del Caribe. Baracoa, Cuba is a musical treasure chest.

Open the lid and you will find everything from traditional homegrown music to danceable Cuban rhythms, 60’s revival, heavy metal, fusion and rap. Baracoa has a nightclub review second to none and an Afro-Cuban folkloric troupe that will blast away the cobwebs.

This area has unique songs and dances found nowhere else; Kiri-Ba Nengon, Aeroplano, Cabarete, Carril, Vais, La Pasion, Bombo Camara, to name a few. In Guirito, 15 kilometers out in the countryside on the way to Maisi, you will find the birthplace of the son, a tradition maintained by 21 members of Kiri-Ba Nengon.

As a tourism destination, Baracoa promotes its eco-tourism. Little known are the hidden diamonds and rubies of the talented musicians you will find there.
